Description

Spinnaker flying, Australia II leads Liberty on a downwind leg of the America's Cup race in 1983. Australia II, skippered by John Bertrand and representing the Royal Perth Yacht Club, came from behind to defeat Dennis Conner and Liberty four races to three. Thus ended the longest winning streak in sports history with the New York Yacht Club having successfully defended the Cup since 1851. Australia II was awarded the ABC Wide World of Sports Athlete of the Year for 1983 for the accomplishment.

I found you guys..lol so beautiful...a friend of mine had one of the sailboats in the american cup..way back...it was called 10 if I remember correctly, he let me steer it and I got up to 14 knots...lol whatever that all means...I know speed, but forgot how fast...thanks for the memory once again and this beautiful picture ...lovely Sherri:):)
